Following his success in winning first place at last month’s AIIM 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, ACES PhD student Abdul Moqeet Hai has gone on to be awarded runner-up at the University of Wollongong (UOW) 2020 3MT Final.

Abdul gave his condensed three-minute thesis presentation on “An electrifying solution to unnerving problems”, describing his research into the development of biocomponent electrode brain implants for patients with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

The 3MT competition sees PhD candidates distil their thesis project in just three minutes with only one PowerPoint slide to a non-specialist audience. The 2020 Virtual UOW 3MT final featured two students from each faculty withing UOW. First-place was awarded $1500 whilst second place and people’s choice received $750.
