How should scientists understand the way in which their fields are both shaped by and are shaping society today? Biomedical Futures 2, hosted by UNSW Sydney on March 7, will aim to answer this broad question during a symposium featuring experts in this very area.

Biomedical Futures 2 will bring together innovators working in biomedical research to focus on the following core themes: values, responsibility and critical engagement in nanotechnology and electromaterials.

ACES Ethics, Policy an Public Engagement Theme Leader Prof Sue Dodds, who was recently announced as La Trobe University’s new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, will present at the symposium during the opening session, debating ethics, while speaking on democratic deliberation and emerging medical technologies.

A talk on critical engagement will follow session one before an interactive workshop discussion, with the final session on visualising futures.

The symposium is a collaboration between UNSW, Monash University, The University of Melbourne, the University of South Australia and the University of Queensland. The event is also co-sponsored by both ACES and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio-Nano Science and Technology (CBNS).
