Empowering Australia’s clean energy future

The ability to power the world with clean energy is one step closer, with the Australian Research Council awarding $4.4 Million in funding to establish a Training Centre for Future Energy Storage Technologies.

 

 

ACES Associate Director Prof Maria Forsyth will serve as the Centre’s Director, and will be supported by ACES members, graduates and collaborators; namely Chief Investigators Prof Doug McFarlane, A/Profs Jenny Pringle and Patrick Howlett, ACES alumni Dr Mega Kar and Dr Robert Kerr and collaborator and newly awarded Laureate Fellow Prof Dan Li.

 

The ARC Training Centre for Future Energy Storage Technologies aims to expand Australia’s capacity in energy storage and production by creating new knowledge and intellectual property in advanced energy materials, batteries and battery-control systems for integration into end user industries.

 

Federal Government support for the Centre was announced by Minister for Education and Training Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, as part of the ARC’s latest round of National Competitive Grants Program funding.

 

Minister Birmingham said the Government had committed funding to the Centre to train and skill the next generation of researchers within the energy industry.

 

“The energy sector is going through rapid transformational change, and we need the best and brightest researchers at the forefront of this change developing new ideas and new technologies,” Minister Birmingham said.

 

“We need researchers who will expand Australia’s capability in energy production and in the critical area of energy storage.

 

“These researchers will be vital in working with industry to explore and develop new types of energy storage beyond batteries, for example hydrogen storage technology.”
