3D printing bone tissue
Jun 28 2022
After being named as a Eureka Prize Finalist for 2018 in August, the Biopen Team’s work has recently been featured in an article by Physics World, illustrating the innovation and research behind it.
The Biopen is a handheld 3D printer developed by ACES Director Prof Gordon Wallace and Chief Investigator Prof Simon Moulton in collaboration Dr Peter Choong from St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. Using stem cell ink, the device aims to allow surgeons to create cartilage for patients with damaged knees to accelerate the regeneration of functional bone.
Back in April, the Biopen, along with 10 other projects, was successful in gaining funding from the Australian Government’s $35 million BioMedTech Horizons program.
